Attorney Edwin M. Boyer Honored

By Laura Calderon

Attorney Edwin M. Boyer has been selected as the 2009 recipient of the William Reece Smith award for public service given by Stetson University College of Law. William Reece Smith is a former president of the American Bar Association and has long been associated with Stetson in many ways. He gave a tremendous amount to the legal community and it is a great honor to be given the award.

For many years, Attorney Boyer volunteered as a Long Term Care Ombudsman when he spent many hours going into facilities, in particular home based assisted living, making sure residents were well cared for, and fixing things for them when they weren’t. He also served on the State Ombudsman Council, too. In 1983, Mr. Boyer worked with Attorney Emily Moore from the Department of Elder Affairs to establish the Florida State Guardianship Association. He continues to give his time, these past two years as a member of the Task Force on Elder Abuse. There are so many things he has done and so over the years and many different ways he has given to the community, including taking on pro bono cases for indigent clients.

The award will be presented on January 25 during the Annual Inns of Court banquet at the Mirror Lake Lyceum in St. Petersburg.

Attorney Boyer richly deserves this award and we could not be more proud of him. Congratulations!
